Agritechnica saw the launch of a number of new tractor series from major manufacturers. Fendt proved no exception and used the show to launch the new 800 series Vario tractors. Ranging from the 819 (200hp) through to the 828 (280hp), the new additions to the 800 range aim to improve on the successes of the old 800s while taking onboard some of the criticism levelled previously at the series.
The cab interior of the Fendt 800 range has been updated and given a fresh lease of life. Known as the Fendt X5 cab, it has been designed for improved all-round visibility with low lines of sight and tinted front and side windows. The cab also features automatic air conditioning and three point cab suspension to provide a comfortable and relaxed ride.
The electronics technology also sees an update with the introduction of the Varioterminal. This is an extremely simple to use, but advanced electronics system. The Varioterminal is a touch screen computer system available in two screen sizes 10.4” and 7”. An optional extra on the 800s is the VarioGuide navigation and automatic steering system which gives full autoguide capability for efficient area coverage.
The tractor itself provides a remarkable power to weight ratio. Boasting up to 280hp from a maximum unladen weight of just 9.45 tonnes, the new Fendt 800 series has a featherweight rating but a powerful punch.
The backbone of the Fendt 800 range is still the industry leading Vario transmission. Fendt now boasts that they have 100,000 in operation currently, and the reliability of the Vario has proven legendary. The current 800 series is renowned for its fantastic fuel efficiency, and the new 800s will have the addition of AdBlue technology. AdBlue reduces emissions while increasing fuel economy and therefore reducing running costs significantly even when running at the max speed of 60kph!
The new Fendt 800 tractors will be available in 2010 with current signs showing that these tractors will prove to be a real winner.
