Merlo / Multifarmer Telehandler
Merlo Multifarmer Telehandler
It's all about choice with Merlo. But, In this case the farmer can have the best of both worlds - tractor and telehandler. The ultimate combination.
The original Merlo Multifarmer Telehandler offers all the performance of a 3 tonne capacity telehandler, combined with the features of a 120HP tractor. The big secret of its success is the ability to operate in two distinct modes, distinguished by which of the two axles is locked into position. In tractor mode, the rear axle is locked in position, just like a tractor, whilst the front swings freely.
One nice feature is that the locked rear axle can be hydraulically levelled, unlike a tractor, which can be a distinct advantage going up and down rows. Conversely, in telehandler mode, the front axle is locked for maximum stability. This is why the lift performance of the Merlo Multifarmer Telehandler is so much better than a conventional tractor/loader combination.
Once again, the front axle can be levelled, enabling the Multifarmer to lift in true vertical, maximising the lift performance like a regular telehandler. Don't let anyone tell you that this combination cannot be a good performer in both roles. Just give it a try or go and see it at the Tillage events - it always amazes!
The original Merlo Multifarmer Telehandler range has the option of two boom assemblies on the same chassis. Both can lift 3 tonnes with ease. The two-section boom lifts to 6m, whilst the three-section alternative goes to 8.55m, using a unique three-section boom extended and retracted with a cable mechanism. This offers great speed and smoothness, whilst minimising the parasitic weight of the structure. Both boom styles protect the mechanism internally, so there is nothing to damage on site.
A Category 2 three-point linkage is mounted at rear. Unlike casual conversions of telehandlers, the Merlo Multifarmer Telehandler was designed from the start as a tractor, so the three-point linkage is not merely 'bolted-on' to the rear. This means a better balance and visibility of the linkage than simple conversions. Conversions also have typically poor lift capacities - this is not the case with the Multifarmer, which has a full 4300kg lift capacity. The Compact Multifarmer has a slightly lower capacity at 4000kg.
A rear PTO is standard and is driven mechanically and directly by the engine. The drive shaft runs through the hydrostatic drive pump, via a pressure clutch which protects the engine and attachment. It has the normal tractor 540/1000 rpm facility. There is the option of a front PTO, operated by a drive shaft running under the chassis.
The original Merlo Multifarmer Telehandlers use a Deutz Tier III turbocharged engine of 120HP. The Compact Multifarmers use a 102HP Tier III Perkins.
The Merlo Multifarmer Telehandler range includes the following models:
MF30.6 3,000kg capacity / 6m lift height
MF30.9 3,000kg capacity / 8.55m lift height
MF40.7 4,000kg capacity / 6.8m lift height
MF40.9 4,000kg capacity / 8.8m lift height
